  • Role: Chemical Plant Operator
    Location: Pontyclun
    Salary: £36,000 per annum


    Saftey, Health & Environment (SHE) Responsibilities:
    £You will be working within a COMAH Upper Tier site and will be required to work in compliance with all related procedures and protocols.
    £You will own Health, Safety and Environmental management in the plants and ensure regular auditing, hazard spotting and COMPASS reviews are undertaken as part of your role.
    £You will lead on activities designed to make the working areas safer by generating process safety and occupational safety improvements.
    £You will own asset care within the areas and ensure that a structured and well organised environment is maintained which mitigates hazards such as slips, trips, falls, chemical contamination any other chemical plant related issues.

    Key Responsibilities:
    £Operate the DBP and CTP.
    £Carry out supervision of the processes and manage process maintenance.
    £Carry out product quality checks in line with the companies QMS.
    £Carry out diagnostics and asset care to keep plants in optimum condition.
    £Carry out accurate chemical sampling and analysis on process solutions & manage waste removal.
    £Own and manage problem solving and continuous improvement activity for safety and process improvements. This will require working closely with the BPROC Process Team
    £Work to approved departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and have an underpinning knowledge of the associated Risk Assessments (RA).
    £Follow Standard Response's when issues occur within the DBP and CTP areas.
    £Attend daily tier 1 Gemba meetings with Team Leaders to identify BAU issues and solutions.
    £Be responsible for systemised hazard spotting and raising hazard cards where appropriate.
    £Carry out any additional ad hoc tasks as deemed appropriate and safe by your Line Manager.

    Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
    £Previous experience within a chemical process environment (preferably COMAH site)
    £Previous experience working with and managing hazardous substances
    £Demonstrate an analytical and logical approach to data driven problem solving.
    £Possess a relevant scientific / engineering qualification.
    £Experience of working within an electro-plating plant.
    £Good knowledge, awareness and attitude towards Health, Safety and Environment.
    £Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    £Financially aware and IT literate.
    £Ability to work independently and efficiently.
    £A basic understanding of cyanide based plating chemistry and cyanide waste effluent treatment would be advantageous but is not essential.

    Qualification requirements:
    £Scientific / Engineering qualification preferably at HNC or above. Those working towards these qualifications may be considered at a development level.
    £Highly experienced RM operators without the relevant qualifications may be considered

    They are seeking a Process Engineer with strong manufacturing processes experience, along with experience in risk assessments and  strong emphasis on New Process Introduction to work in a high hazard industry.

    This will include general risk assessments and more specific assessments such as DSEAR assessments involving ATEX rated equipment.


     Responsibilities:
    £Plan and manage manufacturing process development activities within capital budgets, whilst providing solutions and processes that are robust, timely, and cost effective which meet with customer expectations.
    £To coordinate development activities to establish supporting data that ensures the manufacturing processes are based on a sound understanding of the materials which are being processed and the technology adopted for the plant and equipment.
    £To coordinate and manage a project data file capturing salient data including design and rationale, trials data, process definition including drawings and specifications, certification and safety data. This data is to be controlled through the company£s Product Lifecycle Management system, Teamcenter.
    £To develop robust manufacturing processes implementing industry standard controls that ensure long term process stability; including: Lean principles, PCPs, PFMEAs.
    £Lead and support a number of activities including process reviews, capability studies, Safe System of Work, preparation and compilation of progress reports.
    £To carry out Risk Assessments on processes and equipment, in a high hazard industry. This will include general risk assessments and more specific assessments, such as DSEAR assessments involving ATEX rated equipment.
    £Interacting with installation contractors to ensure a safe working environment is maintained during plant upgrades.
    £To specify technical requirements of new process equipment and support qualification and introduction into production use by Manufacturing Operations.

    Requirements:
    £Minimum HNC / HND Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical or equivalent
    £Significant experience in carrying out Risk Assessments on manufacturing processes and equipment.

    £Design test rig parts and assemblies for mechanical components dynamic/static pressure tests.
    £Support design and application tasks by performing calculations as required, e.g. force and pressure load, deflection, stress, torque load, heat generation and transfer, leakage, and flow, etc.
    £Inspect components and rotating equipment received for repair to determine part condition, defects and performance problems. Create inspection reports with recommended actions.
    £Provide technical support to both internal and external customers including troubleshooting, failure analysis, non-conformance investigations and root cause analysis. Create conclusive reports and recommend actions as required
    £Determine functionality and materials of construction of components and rotating equipment. Select suitable materials of construction for specific applications as required.
    £Propose and carry out modifications to designs and drawings, including legacy drawings and customer supplied drawings.
    £Maintain and improve design, application and drawing systems, structures, and procedures.
    £Maintain the personal expertise and knowledge required to successfully fulfil the role and participate in and personal development reviews.

    Requirements:

    £BEng or Meng in Mechanical Engineering.
    £5 £" 10 years£ experience working with rotating OEMs in an engineering role.  For example-  this might include a combination of Design & Development, Applications,Testing etc.
    £Must have experience of working with Solidworks 3D CAD or similar (SolidEdge, Autodesk Inventor) and be able to produce 3D part and assembly models together with 2D drawings.
    £Must have experience of mechanical design and specifying limits, fits, and geometrical feature tolerances.
    £Must have experience of selecting and specifying materials of construction and proprietary parts
    £Ideally, hands on experience of inspecting mechanical components to determine the root cause of failures and producing associated inspection reports.
    £Alternatively, hands on experience working on mechanical test beds carrying out tests and performance analysis and producing associated reports.
    £Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
